What doesn’t give us pleasure we avoid. This is the fundamental idea. Conversely whatever pains us we avoid, so this is the structure of our mind and this binds us. We have to get out of this circle. Even though things are not pleasant we don’t bother. So this is the main Sutra.”Smt. Hansaji J. Yogendra:"Wherever you get happiness, joy, you get attached to it. You want happiness again and again. And that is one of the main causes of our suffering.

The power of seeing, viewing, knowing, is a different thing. When this joins together with a feeling of union, oneness, that’s a very different thing. You see what you identify and that is how our perceptions happen. In our perceptions we see, there are different things, but we identify. ‘I see’, I know it is there.

The topic for the English Satsang on Sunday, 10th November, 2013 was 'Avidya.'Following is the transcript of the Q & A between the audience and Dr. Jayadeva Yogendra and Smt. Hansaji Yogendra.

Listen to the audio:Check this out on ChirbitQ. Avidya is the inability to see things as they are. Can you elaborate on this? Dr. J: This universe is infinite. We don't know how vast, but we leave it there. Smt. H: A simple example - what is our position in this whole world? Where is our Earth? How many suns are there in the whole galaxy? So many suns and so many planets are there. And then our Earth, in India, in Mumbai we are there. So that's our position. We are such tiny things. But we think of ourselves to be quite great, as if without us the world can't run, without us the house can't run. Without us everything can run. We are nothing. So first of all, we have to remove that ignorance, we have to accept things as they are. If a person is not capable, accept and move ahead. The point is seeing things as they are, i.e. try to see things clearly, see what's your position and understand accordingly.Q. In practical life, they say ignorance is bliss. How do you explain?

4th November 2013 - Monday - Asmita "Asmita is not telling lies this is a word which looks very ordinary but we tell lies and this is a great mistake. We have to reach the highest in yoga and this a great handicap. Better learn to be free from this kind of bad habits. Let us be free let us be truthful, relaxed that’s the whole idea."5th November 2013 - Tuesday - Bhagwad Gita 5.23-5.24

Hansaji J. Yogendra:"This is the definition of Avidya and all of us should remember that Avidya is in all of us. Avidya is ignorance or lack of right knowledge. The definition says that we believe something to be permanent when it is not, and we function like that. That is ignorance. Our body, relations, thoughts, our whole life is not permanent. Everything is changing. But we live as if everything is permanent. Something which is not pure, we believe it to be pure. The body is not pure. beauty is skin deep. We wash our hands and believe them to be clean.
