"Our routines should be so healthy that it has a good effect on our body, health, mind, attitudes and interpersonal relationships. Rituals should only be such that they would not be a burden on us. If they are a burden, the whole point of rituals is lost.
Small rituals taught in childhood, like joining hands in front of God, remembering God before sleeping, these have great effect on the person. With this, we get a peace of mind and strength with the faith that some power is there which is protecting us

Q. What is the the definition of spirituality in yoga? Dr. J: Simplicity and hard work. Smt. H: And in whatever work you do, keep in mind that you are doing the work of God, or that you are not the doer, you are just an instrument in doing the job. This body, mind and intelligence are used to do the work. So the 'Me' and 'Mine' and 'I did' should go, then only can God be experienced.

Q. We do good things in a happy way, yet from within, we want a word of appreciation. Will we ever be able to get spiritual?

A special Satsang was held on Sunday 20th July 2014 in memory of Dr. Patanjali Jayadeva Yogendra's (15th July 1975 - 24th July 2012) birth as well as death anniversary. Dr. Patanjali was the son of Dr. Jayadeva and Smt. Hansaji Yogendra. He was the Secretary and Treasurer of The Yoga Institute, Assistant Editor of the monthly journal, Yoga and Total Health and also taught Samkhya philosophy to the students of the teacher training course at the Institute.

In his honour, an English Satsang on 'Spirituality in Today's Times' was conducted. It began with a beautiful presentation on Dr. Patanjali's life and personality. Followed by this, some Sadhakas of The Yoga Institute who were also friends of Dr. Patanjali, shared their memories with the audience. The teacher trainees then made an intresting presentation on the theme of the Satsang, which was followed by Dr. Jayadeva and Hansaji's thoughts on the same.

“I think the things were explained very well (in the Satsang). One thing is very clear that we don’t have to mix spirituality and materialism. Life is life and all these things (that were explained) are needed. And that is why it is said that we should practice the Purusharthas. Do your duty, earn money, have recreation and see to it that all the things we are doing are always with some purpose, understanding, some discipline to reach a better level of consciousness.

Listen to the audio: Check this out on Chirbit Q. How to find the answer to whether we should do something or not, without getting confused. Dr. J: If you are in need, you must do; if not in need, then don't do. Smt. H: Then before deciding on how to do anything, you have to keep your mind quiet. Stop thinking and analyzing. Analyze before, but then keep your mind quiet. And then, the first thought that comes to you, do that, because it hardly matters in Nature whether you are going this way or that, as long as you are going. That is important.
Q. What is Ishvar and what is Devata?

“There is a saying in Sanskrit, ‘Shraddha-mayo 'yam purushah.’ It means that a human being is made of Shraddha / faith. The more the faith, the greater is the person. We have little faith. Real faith is never in some material thing or to attain something, it is only in God. He is behind everything that is happening. But we are not able to have such faith, so our faith has no meaning. There should be no vested interest behind faith. Faith is peace. When a person is peaceful and wise and thinks accordingly, he has real faith. We are unable to reach such a state and so our faith is weak and many times we do not get certain things. Keep faith and you will automatically get things.”
