The Yoga Institute Participates in Citizens Movement for Equal Streets –
A Global Initiative Launched in Mumbai
The trained teachers and volunteers of The Yoga Institute, Santacruz actively participated in spreading the message of Yoga.
This Citizens Movement is being supported by Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, Mumbai Poilice and by the Times of India group.
As a part of the Citizens Movement for Equal Streets launched in Mumbai from Sunday , 9th November 2014 7.00 a.m. to 11.00 am and to be held every Sunday till 31st May 2015. The Yoga Institute will be actively participating every Sunday in this Citizens Movement for a healthy Eco System, Sustainability and Better Climate and reduction of pollution. On the inaugural day , 9th November 2014 ,The Yoga Institute was specially requested to do a stage programme early morning from 7.30a.m. to 8.00a.m at Linking Road Bandra near National College where a Police Band also performed before and after our event. At this program, simple Yoga techniques were demonstrated and yoga concepts were shared with over 250 citizens. The Yoga Institute’s performance drew excellent response from the people who gathered in huge numbers and participated actively.
The Yoga Institute has been specially allotted two important locations on “Yoga for All” – for citizens at Santacruz West on S.V. Road, opposite St. Theresa’s Convent school and Vodafone Gallery and another at Linking Road Bandra specially for “Yoga for Kids”. Many groups of delighted citizens participated enthusiastically in the various simple Asanas, Pranayams, and concept learning process. Special short sessions for children of various age groups with fun and games were conducted. Various groups were organized for senior citizens, adults, youngsters at respective locations for learning yoga in a simple and effective manner.
The event closed with the little recitation together with the teachers and the participants

Simultaneously, an Annual “Walkathon’ was held between 8 am to 9 am of 2 km and 5 km on the the same day on 9th November 2014. A group of yoga teachers was requested to do a short session after the participants completed the walkathon on benefits of walking and some simple yoga techniques.
This whole Citizens Movement event generated a great deal of enthusiasm and interest in various segments of society, NGOs and the Police who look forward their participation on every Sunday henceforth.
35 trained teachers and volunteers participated actively and enthusiastically in this major initiative as a part of this project being co-ordinated by Shri Hrishi Jayadeva Yogendra .
We look forward to seeing many more enthusiasts in our forthcoming Sunday sessions !!
