Dr. Jayadeva,
born in 1929 was influenced and attracted to Yoga, right
from his early childhood under the influence of his
illustrious father Shri Yogendraji, the founder of The
Yoga Institute and mother Smt. Sitadevi- a pioneer in
teaching Yoga to women.
A brilliant student throughout, Dr. Jayadeva did his
Masters in Samkhya and Yoga at Bombay University in
1952. He stood FIRST in First class and obtained several
prizes. He continued his study and completed Ph D. in
1955. His illustrious guide is said to haveremarked
that for the work Dr. Jayadeva had one, he should b
awarded two Ph D. degrees. He then chose to become Lecturer
in two classical ancient languages SANSKRIT and PRAKRIT.
He was invited by the State Government to take over
as Principal of Teachers Training Institute of Yoga
in Mumbai.
Recognising his eminence in Yoga, the Central Government
of India invited him to be on the Governing Body of
Central Council Research in Indian Medicine in the year
1973. He continued medical research on Yoga for many
years thereafter. He was invited as Guest Lecturer by
various universities overseas including at Melbourne,
