There are scores of new Yoga Systems coming up around the world like a 'Kick Boxing Yoga', 'Power Yoga' etc. Some such systems are knocking at the doors of Yoga enthusiasts in cities like Mumbai and Delhi. Strangely these modern Yogis(!) who would not even know the names of Patanjali or Vacaspati or the Classical 'Yoga System,' they themselves could not even sit in meditative pose like Sukhasana, for five minutes with mind quiet and thoughtless.

Yoga is being propagated in India - its birth place, by its Government as sports and physical culture. At School function on Annual Day an item of Yoga asanas is put forward. Some Governments hold Mr. Yoga and Miss Yoga competition for children? Variety of Syllabus are put up by different bodies.

Yoga and Total Health Magazine - May 2008 Issue

Cannot a central body lay down simple guidelines in teaching Yoga in schools, for example a recommendation to integrate a meditative posture for children where the child learns to sit still for a short time (5 to 10 minutes) with eyes shut and with no body movement and most important busy with a simple mental count of one to hundred and reverse 100 to 1. Another Yoga asana could be simple stretch, lying down or standing co-ordinated breathing and attention to areas being stretched to engage the child's mind. Stretching upwards in standing would require extra attention and concentration and may prove more helpfull.

Similarly bending forward gently while sitting or standing exhaling the breath at that time would help in relaxation if done mildly.

The point is that the psycho-physical practice of Yoga if done correctly lead us to steadiness and mind training resulting in attitudinal changes.

The question is whether we misuse yoga technology for extroversion or use it for introversion and slow static pause for poise and serenity?

The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali by Hansaji
Chapter III Sutra 49
The ultimate aim in Yoga is to gain an absolute clarity about the mind, intellect, etc. on one side and pure consciousness on the other side. When such a situation takes place there is the highest knowledge and understanding. The individual not only knows everything but is in a position also to do anything. The yogi who has reached such a state is not interested or is not wishing for anything. He just understands and this itself is his satisfaction. In simple words attainment of this understanding of Purusa and Prakrti makes for whatever can be considered as the highest.

The Sattva is the purest form of Prakrti and is very close to consciousness, but the Yogi has to see the distinction between Purusa and Prakrti. The distinction of Anyathakhyati is ultimately to discover the mix-up between seer and seen. Pure consciusness is not to be identified with material objects. The final stage is capacity of controlling all the states of consciousness. The final stage is capacity of controlling all the states of consciousness. The capacity is not so important as the knowledge and understanding that results. So seeing the distinction between Prakrti and Purusa creates the capacity. But the knowledge is more important. It is also the knowledge that does not allow the Yogi to exploit his power.
