The topic for the English Satsang on Sunday, 30th December, 2012 was ‘Balanced State of Mind.’
Following is the transcript of the speech made by Dr. Jayadeva Yogendra on the topic.
“We understand the word ‘balance’ as it is put out and we claim that we are balanced. But then, unless we have reached a certain understanding – we understand changes that keep on happening and we see the merit in not changing; unless these kind of experiences occur, we don’t experience it. You see, in our childhood, if we have maintained that state, whether we are in a good condition or in a bad condition, we would know, but that balanced state doesn’t come; of just watching. See, deep down, that understanding must occur that things change, they must change, nothing will remain the same, and even when these things happen you keep on trying to remain stable and not get carried away and lost. Unless this thinking, this kind of logic occurs, the unbalancing is going to happen.
Individuals right at the start of their life, are able to maintain that peace and are able to bring it about where required; they can achieve this. But we have never achieved these states, we have never tested them in conditions that are disturbing. So we know this word, but we are unable to experience. So if we are able to maintain this state even in a disturbed condition, we may get a little insight and see the value. Because in an unbalanced state, mistakes occur and we are going to suffer for that. So it is about realizing the value and the need of a stable state all the time where we have to face this difficulty. Otherwise we remain unbalanced all the time, we are never able to remain balanced and give correct judgments and decisions.”
Satsang is an open meeting held every Sunday from 9:30 to 10:30 am at The Yoga Institute, Santacruz East, Mumbai. It involves an interesting presentation to the public, made by the students of the Teacher Training Course. Each week, a new presentation of a Yogic concept is made in a simple way through skits and decoration for the general public, followed by a short speech from our Gurus, Dr. Jayadeva and Smt. Hansaji Yogendra.
