“From childhood we have been taught, wash your hands before you eat your food. But how many of us follow it? Even the adults, they may be having a discussion and if they have to have their meals, they immediately have it. They will not go for washing the hands. We have not cultivated these kinds of simple things and as a result, we suffer. You see, yoga doesn’t tell us difficult things. It talks about the simplest things – water, salt, a little heating. But the problem is, we have not applied our mind to these things and go on having similar problems off and on. You see the Satkarma – the 6 fold corrective processes, are the easiest and they can definitely take care of many of our problems of cold and cough and sinusitis and even to some extent bronchitis but we are not following these things. And the other techniques, good for the eyes, good for the stomach, good for the intestines, they don’t consume much time but we still don’t follow. So this system of yoga, which is our own, thousands of years old, has very little place in our life. If you have some advertisement of some medicine, we would like to buy that, spend money. But these ordinary things that we were taught also, early, are not having a place in our life, which is very sad.”
Satsang is an open meeting held every Sunday from 9:30 to 10:30 am at The Yoga Institute, Santacruz East, Mumbai. It involves an interesting presentation to the public, made by the students of the Teacher Training Course. Each week, a new presentation of a Yogic concept is made in a simple way through skits and decoration for the general public, followed by a short speech from our Gurus, Dr. Jayadeva and Smt. Hansaji Yogendra.
