Dr. Jayadeva on Purushartha (Motivations) at the Satsang

The topic for the Satsang on Sunday, 25th November, 2012 was ‘Purushartha’ (Motivations). (Hindi)

Following is the transcript of the speech made by Dr. Jayadeva Yogendra on the topic.

Dr. Jayadeva Yogendra

“These are rather difficult questions. We hardly have interest or time to think about the duties in life. We are more interested about the immediates. We have friends and they pump in us the ideas of pleasure, ideas of sports and games and what not. So if we honestly examine ourselves, we are far away from consideration of what we have discussed just now and that is a sad thing. We are all inter-dependent. If we forget what we should be doing in life, and get interested only in the biological drives of pleasure, we are not living correctly and we pay for it. See, yoga doesn’t tell us to do our various activities correctly, it comes automatically when there is a stability of mind and a deep seated understanding for which we don’t have any teaching and that is why we rely on yoga that can generate that mind, that clarity, that understanding and drive so that we would be living our life properly and as a result in the end, satisfy ourselves, enjoy and make others also happy. But whether we want to do this, whether we want to think like that, or our interest goes to what general public says, to what friends are doing and just the immediate pleasure, this is the question. “

Satsang is an open meeting held every Sunday from 9:30 to 10:30 am at The Yoga Institute, Santacruz East, Mumbai. It involves an interesting presentation to the public, made by the students of the Teacher Training Course. Each week, a new presentation of a Yogic concept is made in a simple way through skits and decoration for the general public, followed by a short speech from our Gurus, Dr. Jayadeva and Smt. Hansaji Yogendra.
