The topic for the English Satsang on Sunday, 7th April, 2013 was ‘Kriyas.’
Following is the transcript of the Q & A between the audience and Dr. Jayadeva Yogendra and Smt. Hansaji Yogendra.
Q. If difficult to wash hands during travelling or due to any reason, are hand sanitizers substitute for it?
Dr. J: Yes, they are.
Smt. H: At least we are aware that our hands are dirty, that is more enough. So yes, hand sanitizers can be used, nowadays these things are available.
Q. Can Vaman Dhouti be practiced by people whose blood pressure is under control with medicine?
Dr. J: It should not be practiced unless the doctor advises it.
Smt. H: Actually, I would never recommend Vaman Dhouti for modern people so much, unless the person is really healthy. Because if you have any other problems regarding stomach or blood pressure, even spinal disorders – slip disc and spondylosis, it is going to aggravate when you vomit. So instead of vomiting, if we could eat the right type of food for 2-3 days in a very disciplined way, the problem would be solved. So let us work at that level.
Q. One friend is suffering from acidity since four months. None of the measures taken are working. What to do?
Dr. J: Don’t do any work hurriedly. If you have such a problem, eat food slowly, take some time in the middle, avoid certain foods, such things should be done.
Smt H: Well, understand one thing in acidity that those who have a mind which is running too much, who think too much, have lot of gas and acidity. So keep the mind light. Sing songs, laugh, play. The other thing is, try to live on liquid. It is wrong to eat when you are not hungry. And when you eat, have just a little. Eat 6 times a day – breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner and twice in the middle, have some fruits. With every meal, have some liquid – herbal tea with breakfast and snacks, buttermilk with lunch, one glass cow’s milk with dinner. So lead an organized life and if there is too much tension, leave the city for a few days’ holiday and everything will be alright.
Q. Does Jalneti help in vertigo?
Dr. J: It has not been found, but a little attention that side, massaging the forehead, massaging around the ears can help.
Smt. H: Rubbing the area around the ears and keeping that area warm, keeping the neck warm can benefit a lot in vertigo. So what is taught after Jalneti – massaging the forehead, cheeks, ears, taking some sun on the face, all that helps in vertigo.
Q. Can Kriyas help a cancer patient?
Dr. J: You see, it definitely can help in relaxation.
Smt. H: Well, don’t specify things. May it be a cancer patient or a TB patient, etc. these kriyas will help everyone. And these patients should also do these things very regularly.
Q. What is the Yogic cure for viral infection instead of use of antibiotics?
Dr. J: See, viral infection should be left to itself. Even the doctor will say – don’t do anything.
Smt. H: Viruses come and go. In viral infection, take total bed rest because the body needs rest, take only liquids and it will get better on its own. Antibiotics are not needed. All good doctors don’t even give any antibiotics unless they find some secondary infection in your body, for example a sore throat. But there is no medicine as such for viral infection. You have to just wait and watch. Just see that the fever doesn’t go very high. Till a temperature of 102, do not take any medication, let some fever be there in the body. We always try to keep the fever low, which is not right. Just don’t let it go very high. Don’t interfere too much. Just rest and that will help immensely.
