The topic for the English Satsang on Sunday, 3rd February, 2013 was ‘Overcoming Bad Habits.’
Following is the transcript of the Q & A between the audience and Dr. Jayadeva Yogendra and Smt. Hansaji Yogendra.
Q. How to overcome the attitude of being a perfectionist?
Dr. J: See, some things we have to leave to God. So do your best and leave it to God.
Smt. H: Well, perfectionists are wonderful people, only they should be doing their job well. But expect nothing from others. If they expect others to do their job well, there the problem comes. So develop some faith in God, Higher Reality and believe that everything will be fine inspite of others behaving imperfectly.
Q. Why is worrying a bad habit? Worrying before exams makes us work hard.
Q. How to avoid worrying over a problem?
Smt. H: Can’t you replace worry with planning and determination? Worry weakens the personality. Worry is a negative emotion. But when you have an exam, if you plan and do your work, check how much you have grown, that would be a better management. If worrying is done for a long time, automatically diseases can set in. 15 days of worry and blockages can come. You should not do that.
Q. How to cultivate the habit of detachment while doing your duty?
Dr. J: It is very simple. Do your duty and just leave it there, don’t think further, don’t think.
Smt. H: If you concentrate on your work, detachment is a natural phenomenon, automatic. Just focus on work and everything will be fine.
Q. How do I overcome the habit of feeling hurt?
Dr. J: It is the same thing, don’t keep on bothering, forget.
Smt. H: Hurt feeling comes when we think about it more and more. Something that has happened is past, forget it, pray for that person because of whom you got hurt. Pray to God to give him sanity, to help him, to make him happy. So with all that automatically the next move would be easy.
Satsang is an open meeting held every Sunday from 9:30 to 10:30 am at The Yoga Institute, Santacruz East, Mumbai. It involves an interesting presentation to the public, made by the students of the Teacher Training Course. Each week, a new presentation of a Yogic concept is made in a simple way through skits and decoration for the general public, followed by a short speech from our Gurus, Dr. Jayadeva and Smt. Hansaji Yogendra.
