Smt. Hansaji and Dr. Jayadeva Yogendra

Q. How to take proper care of intellectual level?

Dr. Jayadeva: See, first thing is we have to understand what we mean by intellect. We are more concerned with body, emotions; intellect is something more. It is an overall quality – purpose of life, motivations, intuition, all this comes.

Hansaji: First of all we have to remember that we have intellect. We are intelligent people. Our brain is developed much much more than animals and birds. And so use that when doing any activity. Think before doing action. What is not used, deteriorates. Don’t do anything mechanically.

Q. Which are the Asanas to flatten the abdomen?

Dr. Jayadeva: Best way is to control your diet. That is where the mischief occurs.

Hansaji: I have seen that many people who do Asanas regularly also have large abdomen. This is because they love eating food. Now what you put in the body will be stored somewhere and the abdomen and hips are the areas of storage. Eat when you are hungry and only enough to satiate your hunger and not to fill your belly. Learn to say no. Always have a glass full of liquid like buttermilk or herbal tea with meals; that also would satiate your hunger.

Q. How to live life happily every moment?

Dr. Jayadeva: Join a yoga centre. It will help.

Hansaji: It is said that for a Saint / wise person, every moment is a happy moment. But otherwise, everything disturbs you. So a person has to start following the path of yoga and that would come.

Q. In the context of gymming, how to draw the line between overdoing the required amount? Because you generally feel fatigued only after you are done working out.

Dr. Jayadeva: See, if you are carrying on your day-to-day work, doing your exercise, going for a walk, there is no need for any additional gyming.

Hansaji: As Dr. Jayadeva said, there is no need to do additional gyming. But the risk in our life is, at night you have not slept, or slept little late, or there was some stress in the family, you are emotionally disturbed, everyday you are doing work out for 20 minutes, that 20 minutes is going to cause you fatigue because you are under stress. So you have to decide to go to the gym when you have slept well and eaten on time and everything is fine. But that is a very big risk.

Q. I find it very difficult to hold on to the yoga path. Every time I err and let go of my values. How does one remain on path inspite of falling?

Dr. Jayadeva: See, we conduct this talk four times a week. So you can pick up any week and attend and not attend few more weeks. But this habit will help.

Hansaji: Practice, practice, practice. Nothing else. Go on trying till you succeed.

Satsang is an open meeting held every Sunday from 9:30 to 10:30 am at The Yoga Institute, Santacruz East, Mumbai. It involves an interesting presentation to the public, made by the students of the Teacher Training Course. Each week, a new presentation of a Yogic concept is made in a simple way through skits and decoration for the general public, followed by a short speech from our Gurus, Dr. Jayadeva and Smt. Hansaji Yogendra.
