Faith needs to be developed. There was one person who came to me, all worried about inflation and the future. Are you getting food to eat today?” He said, there was no problem in that. So I told him, “Then be happy.” We don’t know what will happen in the future. Learn to live in the present and that would solve the problem.

“Santosh, in yoga philosophy comes under Niyamas. Yamas teach us how to manage with the outside world and Niyamas show us what we should do for our own development. The first of the Niyamas is Sauca – external and internal purity, purity of body and even of thoughts. The second Niyama is contentment which is related to purity of our emotions and feelings. Where there is discontentment, there is negativity and mistakes. To live a discontented life is very wrong because such a person can never be happy. They will always want more and not learn to be happy with what is already there.

“Sauca in yoga comes under Niyamas and Niyamas are something we have to do for ourselves, nobody else will do it for us. Self-responsibility, self-duty. Now this duty has to come at different level. Cleanliness is given so much importance in spirituality. Cleanliness is next to Godliness. Clean situations, clean thoughts, clean mind, clean action, so naturally the person will reach to the highest.

Smt. H: Yes, it is very necessary to bring about purity of thoughts in the mind. Always try to have good thoughts and remove wrong thoughts.
Q. How do we maintain purity of thought when today’s world is full of negativity?Dr. J: Well, there is a lot of trash in the trash cans, still we are maintaining internal cleanliness. So even if there are so many unclean things, we can maintain cleanliness.
Smt. H: This is what we are trying to say. The world is what it is, but you should do something for yourself. See to it that you don’t start thinking negatively or start doing wrong things just because others are doing it. At least you can keep yourself in check and do your work well.
