We have other considerations and so we have got into the habit of telling things that can help us in getting is out of a bad situation. So we have included a lot of untruth, cheating and what not. A man who speaks truth is a man with a conviction. He is not bothered whether a certain statement will help him or hurt him. He is just concerned with whatever is the fact and he will speak out the correct thing, the right thing, the truth. Now we have slowly come out of that and we keep on telling things that give us immediate benefits. All are untruth. And we are carrying on. But this has become a habit.

"We have to sit down and quietly think about 'What do I value in my life?' When we begin our life, we deal with situations according to the existing circumstances then, we take opportunities where we find them, following what others are doing blindly - if someone is lying or cheating to get rid of a situation, we do the same in a similar situation, thinking it is alright to do so if everyone is also doing the same. We follow what our parents do and how our siblings behave; we see and learn from the people around us and this is how we live our life. We forget that each of us is different. When I look closely at people, I see everyone running after happiness, let’s understand that happiness and pain flow together. Where there is happiness, there will be pain too. Therefore, yoga philosophy suggests we develop some clarity on how we want to live our lives. What should I give more importance to in my life? The importance should be given to that which helps me lead a better life today as compared to yesterday, or a better tomorrow as compared to today – this would be the path of self-development.

"The first thing to do is identify which habits are supposed to be good habits and which are bad habits. The definition is such that habits which hurt our body or do not allow our body to be healthy are bad for us. Habits which increase our Kleshas, our ego, our attachment, hatred, selfishness, are bad habits. Habits are actions done without thinking. It just happens.Any compulsive behaviour is bad. Yoga states it very clearly that one should think and then act. The purpose of every action should be clear before the action is done. The decision should never be taken under the influence of likes and dislikes. If this is not done, then slowly over a period of time, we form bad habits.

H: If you are determined that you really want to stop smoking. Make one decision in the mind and from all sides help will come to you. I have an impatient nature and tend to find a solution to my problems in a hurry. How to overcome this weakness?

Listen to the Audio: Check this out on Chirbit “You see, one of the bad habits we have is to say that I have no bad habits. That makes it easy. Realizing that I have a bad habit could have helped. But this doesn’t come out from our mouth. Things enter into us and we automatically do things and while we are doing it we realize that this is a bad habit. But our standard statement is, “Next time I’ll not do that.” But that next time doesn’t come. So what it means is, when I know that it is a bad habit, I have to there and then decide and act. If I have taken a cup of tea, and I have decided I should not take it, I should immediately put aside the cup and not say that when I finish, “Next time, I will not take it.” This happens in every area. We give some leniency. That leniency also has to go. If you know that this is a bad habit, you just act on that and never again touch it.” - Dr. Jayadeva Yogendra

Listen to the Audio: Check this out on Chirbit "We are not able to take people as they are. We get upset. We want the world to move according to our wishes. The world doesn't move like that. There's lot of learning in all the situations that occur in life. But we should be good learners. Just as in the incident that was mentioned (in the Satsang skits), the learning was there and the person took up the learning and they are happy. So the basic thing is our attitude in life. This little life that we have been given is very meaningful. It's ultimately for our good. Whatever comes, let us accept and enjoy. If only this approach is maintained, most of the problems that we are unhappy with will turn out to be pleasant. Try and see."

"Everything has been very nicely explained in the presentation today. The point to remember is that each of us is unique and no other person is like us. What you may be able to think may not be possible for someone else. And God is great, he has designed that opposites come together, that varieties come together… it is a test to learn to live with it. The formula is very clear… 1. Accept everyone as they are.

Listen to the audio: Check this out on Chirbit Q. When daily we see our children doing things and spoiling their health and they do not want us to interfere, what is our duty? What do we do? Do we leave them as they are? Dr. J: We need not be too harsh on young children. We can join them and ourselves take up the activity and in a very pleasant way, tell them the benefits. It has to be done in a better way than just forcing. Smt. H: Understand that with a child you need to be very creative. We have to understand their overall food habits and certain things. Suppose you made a certain vegetable the child doesn't like, okay, what do we get from vegetables? Fibers, vitamins and minerals. Now vitamins and minerals you will get from honey. So let the child eat his chapatti with honey and get up, no problem. And for fiber what you need to make him eat is groundnuts or sprouts. So we have to be more creative and not rigid, that "You have to eat this vegetable, this is bad and this is good." Don't be so harsh on children and that's how they will slowly pick up the habit. Or sometimes with a loving tone just tell him, "Just eat one spoon for me." Such things, slowly, slowly should be introduced and not forced upon. Q. How to be active daily and every moment? Is there one way or one Asana to get rid of lethargy?

We pick it up again after long. In the meanwhile, not much good occurs. This is a defect in our personality. Those who are consistent, succeed. In the stories of great men and women, there are those who take up things and have followed them regularly. This applies in all areas. It is an attitude of the mind and naturally it spills over in our activities. We want to improve but we don’t want to pay the price. The unfortunate result is that we don’t improve at all.

Dr. J: We are showing a pleasant and happy, cheerful face, naturally the response will be good. If we are appearing unhappy, disturbed, then the response will be bad. So to a good extent, our own expressions will lead to the reactions. Smt. H: You create your own world. If you think good things, good will happen, if you think bad things, bad things will happen.
